Privacy policy for Tesla Quick Settings

The Tesla Quick Settings application is a commercial application developed and owned by Happy Camper Labs.

This page is used to inform visitors about our policies regarding collection, use and disclosure of personal information when using the application Tesla Quick Settings. If you choose to use this application then you consent to the collection, use and disclosure of information as outlined in this policy.

What data is collected from the user?

The application needs temporary access to your Tesla login credentials.

How is the data used?

Your Tesla login credentials are used to acquire an oauth access token from Tesla. Once the access token has been created, it is used instead of your password when communicating with Tesla servers to control your car. An access token is valid for 45 days. Once it has expired, the application will once again ask for your login credentials to acquire a new access token.

Is the data shared with third parties?

Your login credentials and oauth token are sent to Tesla. This is necessary for the operation of this application. Note that Tesla already has access to your login credentials and the oauth token is generated by Tesla which means that the data is not shared with anyone that does not already have access to it.

What data is stored on your device?

The oauth access token is stored on your device.

Once the oauth access token has been created, the application destroys any traces of your Tesla login details. The only exception to this behavior is when you have enabled the "remote start on unlock" configuration. In addition to the access token, Tesla requires that the login password is also provided when anyone attempts to remote start their car. If you enable "remote start on unlock" then you must supply your Tesla password on the configuration options screen. In this case, the application will also store your password on your device for later use.

We do not recommend that you enable "remote start on unlock" on rooted devices. The reason is that rooting a device may disable Android's built-in security features which normally prevent other applications from accessing this applications stored data.

Is any data sent to Happy Camper Labs?

No data in any form is sent to our servers. The application only communicates with Tesla servers.

Note on security

We value your trust in providing us your Personal Information, thus we are striving to use commercially acceptable means of protecting it.
